I’ve been a self employed photographer for over 2 years now and I just absolutely love it, photography has been my passion since I was a teenager, but it took me a long time to get the courage to just go for it as a profession. When I left school at 16 I really wanted to study photography in college, but I was told by the adults in my life that it was a waste of time and nothing will ever come of it.
Reluctantly I had to study Travel & Tourism instead, and of course I hated it and only lasted for a year and a half and quite proudly and I suppose naievely quit. With no plans after quitting I spent a couple of months job hunting and feeling sorry for myself. I eventually got my first proper job as a general assistant in a hotel/guest house in Conwy, I spent a couple of years there before going back to college and studying IT & Business in LLandrillo college. This is when my passion and interest for photography picked up again, after buying myself a cheap bridge camera.
The reason for going back in my 20’s to study IT & Business is because I was thinking ” realistically ” and I thought I had to get a ” proper job ” and a career. I didn’t quit this time! 😀 I stuck it out for 2 years and proudly graduated. Photography was still a hobby for me, because I still didn’t feel confident enough to do anything with it, but after going from one unsuccessful IT/Office job from another I had finally had enough of being treated badly and me and John came up with a plan.
The plan… to have our own business, which I can happily say is the best thing we ever did, he gets to do web design which he loves and I get to do photography.. which we intergrate into the web design.
Why I love it
Photography is not just about landscapes and portraits, there’s so much more you can do, especially when you learn to use software such as Adobe Photoshop, because you can create things like this! Model is of course the lovely John :D. Creating unique compositions really is my favourite part about photography, you can have so much fun with it.
You can express yourself artistically through photography and I think all photographers have their own unique style and techniques, and since doing photography as a profession I have just fallen in love with it even more.
So if somebody tells you, you can’t do anything or achive your goals, try not to let that get to you and never let anyone else get in the way of what you want. If somebody came up to me 5 years ago and told me I’d be a professional photographer I probably would have laughed in their face, but now I know anything is possible if you put your mind to it!
Don’t give up on your dreams 🙂
And finally, here are some visuals to show why I love photography.
I hope you liked this, and don’t forget to show the love by sharing on social media.
